List of Android Versions

Introduction:

Today we will gonna talk about the list of Android Versions. Android is the mobile operating system based on a forked version of Linux. Android is also called open-source software. Used on all phones except Android iOS.

However, Android OS was first launched in November 2007. HTC – HTC Dream is the first commercial smartphone based on Android.

Various versions of Android have been released since 2007. Each updated phone has a newer Android version.

Android 1.0:

Android 1.0 is the first iteration of application programming. This was released on September 23, 2008. This Android did not have an official code name but according to some reports, it is called Android Alpha.

Android 1.1:

Like Android 1.0, Android 1.1 also has no official code name so it was known as Android Beta. Android 1.1 came on 9th Feb 2009. Android 1.1 has introduced some features. These include third-party keyboards, video recording, video support, playback for web browsers, and copy-paste.

Android 1.5 Cupcake:

It is the first Android version released on April 27, 2009, which officially got the nickname Dessert. Android 1.5 was later renamed Android Cupcake.

Android 1.6 Donut:

Just a few months after the launch of Android 1.5 Cupcake, on 15 September Android launched their new OS Android 1.6 Donut. It can also be considered the fourth version of Android. It has some unique features. Such as: support for CDMA technology, support for different screen sizes, and the use of a battery.

Android 2.0 Eclair:

Android 2.0 Éclair was released by Google on October 26, 2009. Again, this is considered to be the fourth major Android update and the fifth edition released in the same year. It supports a Google search bar, UI, and HTML 5 on top.

Android 2.2 Froyo:

Android 2.2 Froyo came to us on May 20, 2010. It offered several more optimizations than the Android 2.0 Eclairs.

Android 2.3 Gingerbread:

In 2010 Google succeeded in launching another OS and it is known as Android 2.3 Gingerbread. People didn’t have to wait long for this version of Android. It appeared on December 6 of the same year. This version introduces features such as: NFC support and VoIP calls. Samsung’s Nexus S smartphone was first released with Android 2.3.

Android 3.0 Honeycomb:

Android 3.0 Honeycomb came to us on February 22, 2011. Also, this version of Android was usable on tablets. The first product of Android 3.0 Honeycomb was Motorola Xoom.

Android 4.0 Ice-cream Sandwich:

Released on October 18, 2011, the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich version was designed to give a better experience to both smartphones and tablets. This is considered to be the first version to support Face Unlock on selected devices

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean:

Jelly Bean Android 4.1  was officially launched on July 9, 2012. It is the 10th iteration of Android. Android 4.0 is designed to take into account performance improvements with a smoother user experience.

Android 4.4 KitKat:

Launched on October 31, 2013, OS is Android 4.4 KitKat It is able to offer an enhanced user experience on devices with limited hardware capabilities.

Android 5.0 Lolipop:

Android 5.0 Lolipop offered a larger design overhaul, even from Android 4.4 KitKat. The release date was November 12, 2014 This version is a newly designed UI and it replaces Dalvik with improved ART or Android runtime to improve application performance and battery optimization.

Android 6.0 Marshmallow:

Android 6.0 Marshmallow was launched by Google on October 5, 2015. This is the first Android version to offer a new permission architecture to improve user privacy. Android version locally supports a USB Type-C port and a physical fingerprint sensor.

Android 7.0 Nougat:

One year later, on August 22, Android 7.0 Nougat was released The Nougat Android version offers support for the Vulkan API for advanced graphics rendering, in a new app notification format.

Android 8.0 Oreo:

Android 8.0 Oreo appeared on August 21, 2017. Oreo supports Bluetooth 5.0 and a wide color gamut. This version is the first Android version to support these.

Android 9 Pie:

Android 9 Pie appeared on August 6, 2018. It offers a new style of buttons on the navigation, a refreshed element design. To date, Android 9 pie has been used in many smartphones.

Android 10:

It was discovered on September 3, 2019. Android 10 was introduced as Android Q when it was invented. It was also called the first modern Android OS. This version has no dessert code name. It came with a newly designed navigation system. The similarity between Android 10 and modern iPhones is remarkable.

Android 11:

It took more than a year for Android 11 to arrive, and it was launched on September 8, 2020. Also, It has several features. For example conversation notifications, offering a built-in screen recorder.

Android 12:

It is the most recent os. This Android operating system came on October 19, 2021. So, Android 12 is a completely new UI, new privacy features, and a more seamless way to switch back to a new device.

Android 13:

It is Google’s upcoming Android version. However, we have already received news about some of their features. For example, the opportunity to choose the language, the notification of the phone is very silent and the screen tone also changes.
